I recently purchased this check dress from Topshop and have been playing around with ways to wear it, so I thought I'd feature it in this weeks Styling Saturday. I could have gone for my usual ankle boots and socks combo with a red nail and bowler hat (which would still look great with this dress) but I wanted to do something a little different this week - minus the smock dress as I'm always buying those.. what's a girl to do, ay?!
Jelly shoes aren't just for young children running around on the beach anymore, oh no, they've hit the highstreet big time. I've teamed this dress with a pair of black jelly shoes from New Look for a youthful summery vibe; the best thing about these shoes is that they're only £9.99, so if you decide you aren't a fan of the jelly shoe trend after all, you won't feel too disheartened having parted with money for them (let's face it, we've all done it, but it cuts a little deeper when it's a £70 pair of shoes)
To tie the look together I have added a classic black satchel as I wanted to keep the accessories to a minimum as the dress already has a bold pattern; then to add a touch of colour to this look and make it feel more summery, I chose a bright orange nail polish from Ciate which may seem a little too much on top of the blue, checked dress but I think it just works - orange is on the opposite side to blue on the colour wheel after all, meaning they're complimentary colours, therefore by the science of art, they should work *wink wink*.
How would you style this checked dress?
